Tangkhul Volunteers In Litan Demand Clarity And Action From Working Committee

UKHRUL: “To the Leadership of the Tangkhul Naga Working Committee, we address you not in routine correspondence, but in a moment of escalating emergency,” stated a press release issued by the Tangkhul Naga Volunteers in Litan, demanding immediate intervention in the prevailing situation.

The Volunteers noted that the Tangkhul Naga Working Committee, constituted two days ago, was entrusted with the responsibility to urgently assess the ground situation, intervene where necessary, and prevent further escalation. However, they expressed concern over what they described as the absence of visible action or official communication from the Committee, stating that anxiety among the public is mounting as tensions continue.

According to the release, reports from the ground indicate escalating strain in Litan, including the use of tear gas and the movement of armed elements in certain areas. The Volunteers warned that the risks to civilian life and long-term stability are increasing if immediate steps are not taken.

“The people of Litan should not become refugees on their own land,” the statement asserted, emphasizing that residents require protection, assurance, and clear leadership during the crisis. It further stressed that the time for observation has passed and called for decisive and visible intervention.

The Volunteers called upon the Working Committee to publicly clarify its position and immediate course of action, initiate urgent dialogue with all relevant stakeholders, ensure the protection of civilians to prevent further escalation, and facilitate transparent communication in order to restore public confidence.

The statement underscored that no community should face displacement from its ancestral land and cautioned that hesitation at a critical moment could have lasting consequences for future generations.

Emphasizing the need for moral clarity and timely leadership, the Volunteers concluded that history would judge the present moment not by the scale of the crisis, but by the courage and responsibility demonstrated in responding to it.
