Manipur police arrested three persons as they busted two brown sugar factories and seized a huge quantity of processed brown sugar and other materials used in manufacturing the contraband drugs in Thoubal district a few days ago. Police said that two brown sugar factories run at the houses of two individuals at Lilong Nungrei village were busted on March 7 night acting on reliable information.
Acting on the reliable information, a strong team of district police rushed to the village and conducted house search operations at the houses of M Maneruddin (49) and Md Manergul (53). During the house search operation the teams busted the two heroin brown sugar manufacturing units which have been running in the houses by the above two persons.
Thoubal SP S Ibomcha claimed that during the raids, the police recovered 565 grams of refined heroin (brown sugar) powder (refined), 1104.98 kg of brown sugar and five kg of opium. Other materials used in processing the brown sugar recovered during the raids included 131 litres of morphinated liquid, two pressing boards and other items used in manufacturing heroin brown sugar. Four vehicles allegedly used in the transportation of drugs and other material used in manufacturing brown sugar and Rs 61,400 in cash were also recovered, he added.
The three persons arrested during the operation were identified as Md Yunush Khan (22) of Nungei Mamang Leikai, Bogimayum Sher Shaha (23) of Uchiwa Haotabi Leikai and Md Manergul (53) of Lilong Khunou Mamang Leikai.
The police further established details of other persons involved in running the illegal factories during interrogation of the arrested trio.
