Imphal: Three more Omicron cases reported in Manipur on Tuesday, taking the total number of the fast spreading variant of COVID-19 in the state to 42. However, they were discharged upon recovery.
Infection of the three patients with the variant was confirmed today, according to a press release of the state Health department that also informed that all the patients had already been discharged upon recovery.
The first omicron case was detected in Manipur in the middle week of December last year.
On the other hand, 461 new cases of COVID-19 and four fresh deaths were reported in the state in the last 24 hours.
The four deaths in a day recorded today was the highest single-day fatality of the current month of January.
With the addition of the latest deaths, the COVID-19 fatality toll in the state rose to 2,031.
Two deaths each were reported in Imphal West and Imphal East districts. Two of them had the second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, COVID-19 Common Control Room said in its latest release.
The 461 fresh cases reported in the last 24 hours took the overall COVID-19 infection count in the state to 1,30,951.
The fresh cases were detected upon testing of 2,687 samples on the day and the positivity rate of the day was 17.2%.
As many as 308 patients were discharged upon recovery on the day, taking the recovery tally of the state to 1,25,321. The recovery rate further dropped to 95,70%.
The active cases rose to 3599, the release said.
Among the fresh cases, 204 were recorded in Imphal West district, 124 in Imphal East, 29 in Thoubal district, 26 in Churachandpur district, 24 in Bishnupur district, 15 in Kakching district and 11 in Kangpokpi district.
The remaining districts reported fresh cases below 10-mark with zero case in Pherzawl district.
As per the latest update, as many as 7,939 people were vaccinated against COVID-19 on Monday, taking the total number of doses administered in the state 24,45,260(first dose: 13,93,030 second dose: 10,34,944 and precautionary dose: 17,286).
The cumulative number of people who have been vaccinated in the state with the first dose stood at 58.06% and for the second dose it was 44.21%, the Health department added.
