UKHRUL: The Tangkhul Mayar Ngala Long (TMNL) has submitted a letter to the Chief Minister of Manipur regarding the order dated February 10, issued by the Government of Manipur, concerning the selective suspension of internet services.
According to TMNL, “the present order imposing suspension/curbing of internet services specifically within Ukhrul District alone appears to be disproportionate and selective in its application.”
TMNL stated that the ongoing tension and related activities are not “confined only to Ukhrul District but are also reportedly extending to adjoining Kuki-inhabited districts such as Kangpokpi and Churachandpur, where individuals are alleged to be participating in the conflict through the movement of armed groups, dissemination of information, and checking/frisking of vehicles along National Highways.”

TMNL further added that the restriction of internet services has posed a major inconvenience to ordinary citizens, including students, patients, government employees and residents who rely heavily on essential services such as education, banking, communication, healthcare coordination and livelihood activities.
TMNL has requested the suspension or modification of the order in view of the broader geographical spread of the conflict situation, or to ensure that such regulatory measures are “applied in a fair, proportionate and uniform manner across all affected districts, based strictly on objective assessment of ground realities.”
The Association has assured its fullest cooperation with the Government to restore peace and normalcy.
