Agartala, May 21: Amid the hustle of national reforms, a quiet Gram Panchayat in West Tripura district has made a loud statement. West Majlishpur, under the Jirania Block, has bagged the Silver Award in the National Awards for e-Governance 2024-25, bringing laurels to Tripura and showcasing the potential of grassroots governance done right.
The award was given under the category “Grassroot Level Initiatives for Deepening/Widening of Service Delivery with focus on initiatives by Gram Panchayats or equivalent Traditional Local Bodies”, which recognises effective and people-centric innovations in rural service delivery.

Announcing the achievement, Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha extended his heartfelt congratulations to the Gram Panchayat team.
“I heartily congratulate West Majlishpur Gram Panchayat of Jirania Block, West Tripura District for getting Silver Award at the National Awards for e-Governance Scheme 2024-2025 for the Grassroot Level Initiatives for Deepening/Widening of Service Delivery with focus on initiatives by Gram Panchayats or equivalent Traditional Local Bodies,” Dr. Saha stated.
“This award is epitome of the dedication and commitment for easy, effective, economical and environment-friendly governance by Prime Minister Narendra Modi ji,” he added.
Dr. Saha further mentioned that the state representatives will be awarded a medal, certificate, and a cash prize of five lakh rupees by the Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances (DARPG) under the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions (MoPPGP), Government of India at the National Conference on E-Governance to be held in Visakhapatnam from June 9 to 10, 2025.

It is learned that Tripura’s recognition came alongside Maharashtra’s Rohini Gram Panchayat (Gold Award), and Jury Awards to Palsana Gram Panchayat of Gujarat and Suakati Gram Panchayat of Odisha. The selection emphasizes the growing national appreciation for inclusive and innovative governance at the grassroots.
Lastly, Dr. Saha shed light on the previous achievements of Tripura’s rural governance, stating, “It is noteworthy that last year Tripura received a total of seven national awards in various categories for excellence in the Panchayati Raj system, which was the highest in the country.”
West Majlishpur’s journey from a modest panchayat to a national model is being seen as a testament to the state’s strides in digital governance, transparency, and local administrative efficiency.
