About the Bhashini Initiative

Bhashini is a flagship program under the Digital India initiative to bridge the digital and literacy divides by enabling communication and internet accessibility in 22 Indian languages. Through technologies like real-time translation, speech-to-text, and text-to-speech, Bhashini leverages Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Natural Language Processing (NLP) to provide accurate translations and multilingual access to digital platforms.

Reducing the Digital Divide in Tripura

The workshop highlighted the potential of Bhashini to address language barriers, especially in rural and tribal areas of Tripura, where citizens often face difficulties using software systems in English or Hindi. By integrating Bhashini into existing governance systems such as the CM Helpline, Amar Sarkar app, eVidhan, and Kisan Sahayata App, the government aims to enhance multilingual communication and improve service delivery.

In the education sector, the initiative can support multilingual technologies, while in law enforcement, it can enable the translation of FIRs and voice-based data entry for the Crime and Criminal Tracking Network & Systems (CCTNS) platform.

Tripura Leads in Digital Inclusivity

Tripura is the first northeastern state, the first in eastern India, and the eighth in the country to sign an MoU with Bhashini. This step places the state among a select group of progressive regions that have hosted focused workshops to integrate the program into governance systems.

Speaking about the initiative, officials emphasized the role of Bhashini in reducing the digital divide by providing cost-effective translations, promoting inclusivity, and enhancing regional identity. With this agreement, Tripura aims to unify its linguistic diversity and ensure broader access to essential services in regional and local languages.
