Ukhrul: The Government of Manipur has announced the establishment of a dedicated Integrated Anti-Extortion Cell under the Home Department to tackle extortion-related activities in the state. The Cell, which will function round the clock, includes representatives from the State Police, Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF), and Assam Rifles/Army. This initiative aims to provide an efficient response mechanism to address extortion demands and ensure public safety. Reports suggest that unlawful organisations have been threatening individuals, including government officials, through calls, messages, or demand letters, warning of severe consequences if their demands are not met. Such activities pose a serious threat to law and order in the state.

The government has urged citizens, including officials, to report any threats or extortion attempts to the Anti-Extortion Cell through the helpline. Upon receiving a complaint, the Cell will coordinate with local police stations to take appropriate action. People have also been advised to avoid visiting unsafe locations.
