Two doctors have died due to COVID-19 related complications in Manipur in the last 24 hours as the situation in the state is fast worsening with each passing day.
Dr Richard Duomai, a doctor at Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS), Imphal, succumbed to COVID-19 on Saturday night while Dr Jodhchandra Sanasam, an ENT specialist, passed away on Sunday afternoon after battling COVID-19 along with other ailments, according to sources.
Dr Sanasam breathed his last at Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) in Imphal. He retired as an ENT specialist from the institute.
The sources said that Dr Duomai was exposed to the virus while serving COVID-19 patients at the Covid care facility of the hospital. He succumbed to COVID-19 on Saturday night, around 7.45 pm.
Meanwhile, Chief minister N Biren Singh condoled the demise of the frontline warrior.
“Deeply pained by the untimely demise of Dr Kyoduwo Richard Duomai, who passed away yesterday. We tried our best to save Dr Richard but fate has something else in store for him as he succumbed to Covid complications,” Biren Singh stated in his condolence message.
Dr Richard was himself a frontline warrior in this pandemic. His sacrifice for the service of the people will never be forgotten, the chief minister said, while expressing his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family.
Indian Red Cross Society, Manipur state branch extended its condolences to the sudden demise of Dr Sanasam. He was an excellent human being who smilingly helped others, it said.
The society was shocked and pained to learn about the sudden demise of Dr Sanasam today afternoon at RIMS hospital after a short illness, it added.
Dr Sanasam was not only a well known medical professional but also an eminent lyricist, writer and translator, who had been associated with the Indian Red Cross Society for a term.
The Indian Red Cross Society offered its condolence to the bereaved family members and prayed that they have the resilience and strength to weather this great loss, it added.
