Imphal, August 12: The Tribal Youth Council, Manipur (TYCM), General Headquarters, Tarung Youth Club, in collaboration with the Manipur State Legal Services Authority (MSLSA) and the District Legal Services Authority, Imphal West, observed International Youth Day 2025-cum-Legal Awareness Programme today at 10:00 AM at Tarung Community Hall, Imphal West. The event was held under the theme “Youth Empowerment for a Sustainable Future.”
International Youth Day is observed worldwide every year on August 12th following the United Nations General Assembly Resolution 54/120, adopted on 17th December 1999, which officially proclaimed the date as International Youth Day. The occasion acknowledges the contributions of youth to society, promotes their engagement in creating positive change, and advocates for policies that address their needs and aspirations. It also encourages young people to participate actively in decision-making processes and to stand up for their rights and interests.

The programme was graced by Dr. Benjamin A. Shimray, Associate Professor & Head of the Electrical Engineering Department, NIT Manipur; Janghingam Gonmei, Officer-in-Charge/District In-charge, Fire Service, Senapati District, Manipur; and Wungreiyo Ningshen, Social Worker, as Special Guests. They spoke on the International Youth Day theme and addressed the grievances and challenges faced by the tribal communities of Manipur.
The legal awareness session was conducted by Leishangthem Jeebit Singh (MPS), DSP (Cybercrime, Manipur), who sensitized the participants on the prevention of cybercrime.

The TYCM-GHQ reaffirmed its stand for the tribal youths and people of Manipur, advocating for their rights to live with dignity and liberty. The Council expressed its belief that the future of Manipur’s tribals rests in the hands of the youth, and called for unity and determination to secure a brighter future and create a lasting legacy for generations to come. Leaders of tribal CSOs, intellectuals, social workers, and youths from various tribal communities in Manipur participated in the programme.
