UKHRUL: Tribal Youth Council Manipur (TYCM), Council Headquarters (CHQ) has announced its decision to intensify democratic agitation on March 24 against the failure of the Manipur government to materialise the ultimatum served on January 28, 2025 demanding the immediate operationalisation of the Tribal Girls’ Hostel at Old Lambulane in Imphal.
The decision was taken during a meeting of the Central Executive Council (CEC) of TYCM held on March 9.
TYCM–CHQ, in a statement, expressed its strong disappointment over the alleged negligence of the state government in addressing the problems faced by tribal girl students and other genuine tribal issues.

Expressing disappointment over the government’s inaction, TYCM–CHQ alleged that the Manipur government has shown no concern for the tribal girl students from far-flung, remote hill areas who are pursuing their education in Imphal.
It stated that the tribal girls students are compelled to stay in rented accomodations, adding financial burden to the poor parents.
“The parents of these students struggle to support and sponsor their children’s education while also managing their families and sustaining their daily livelihood, mostly through paddy cultivation. As a result, these tribal girl students continue to face financial and logistical hardships while pursuing their education in Imphal,” TYCM–CHQ stated, adding, “If the said Tribal Girls’ Hostel does not become functional for tribal girl students coming from far-flung and remote areas, the very purpose of establishing the hostel will become meaningless and detrimental to the educational prospects and careers of tribal girl students in Manipur.”
The TYCM–CHQ will decide the mode of agitation at a later stage ahead of intensifying the agitation, it added.
