Ukhrul: In the recently concluded competition of the 59th Mr Manipur held at Asha hall Imphal on December 11 and 12, eight athletes from Ukhrul under Robert Leishangthem Meitei participated in the competition and seven of them brought home medals.
The seven bodybuilders from Ukhrul are:
Yuvraj Sona, Gold in Jr 60 kg category
Johnny, 4th place in Jr 60 kg category
Thanmi Awungshi, 6th place in Jr 60 kg category
Wonchui luithui, 4th place in Women’s Sports Physique
VS Lungchanwon, 5th place in Women’s Sports Physique
Rinmi Shishak, Silver in Senior 55 kg category
Wungreithei, 5th place in Senior 75 kg categroy
All the seven athletes are from Royal Gymnasium Ukhrul, recognised by WBPF (World Bodybuilding Motivation and Fitness Federations) owned and run by Robert L Meitei.
The gym was established in the year 2013. In a span of five years, Royal Gymnasium Ukhrul got recognition under All Manipur Body Builders Association (Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Manipur) in the year 2018.
The gym currently has around 100 members enrolled from different districts training under Robert. Some of the athletes are preparing intensively for the upcoming Junior Mr India contest and for the Federation Cup. The selection of which will be held on January 16, 2022 and January 30, 2022 respectively.
It may be mentioned that during an inspection of Royal Gymnasium Ukhrul accompanied by the vice president and the treasurer of International Body Builders Federation (IBBF), they asked Robert to seek for hardworking students from the hill districts to provide sponsorship and help them achieve their goals and give a head start to their career.

Robert L Meitei told Ukhrul Times, “I want to build young men and women with discipline so that they could be at their peak potential and I want to build a good career from fitness and bodybuilding industry. People are still not aware of the potentiality of how good this industry can shape and influence young men and women towards a healthy lifestyle”.
Robert L Meitei is the son of Late L Paka Meitei from Lilong and his mother L Thaba Chanu from Khurai.
Personal information
•He is the second child among 5 siblings (2 girls and 3 boys)
•He got into weight lifting in the year 2000.
•He moved to Ukhrul in 2007 from Moreh and worked at EHA (Emmanuel Hospital Association) as a teacher and in Wungchon Girl’s hostel as a warden.
• He was a teacher of St.George and also served as the Headmaster of St. George school for 5 years.
• He is currently the Principal of central school
• He has passed the State Level Judges exam.
• In 2019 he and his friend Reisang Zingkhai passed the national level judges exam.
• He will be going to Telangana on 5th January To appear for the all India judges exam.
• He is 39 years old, married and have 2 kids.
• One of his student, Solimla Jajo bagged the 5th place in Ms Federation Cup 2021 and Ms Manipur 2019 under his guidance.
