Ukhrul: Ukhrul Police nabbed one individual on Tuesday for dumping waste at an unauthorized places in Phungreitang Bazaar at Ukhrul Headquarters. The individual has been penalised with a fine of Rs. 5000 for violation of strict instruction issued by the District Administration in regards to disposal of waste.

On July 12, the Deputy Commissioner of Ukhrul, Kengoo Zuringla had chaired a joint meeting with chairmen and secretaries of all localities of Ukhrul Headquarters at DC Conference Hall to tackle the issue of waste management at Ukhrul Headquarters. The meeting resolved that disposal of waste items at unauthorized places, roadside, highway, streams, etc. shall attract a penalty and further action shall be initiated against any person as per the law.

To stop disposal of waste haphazardly, a signboard was also exhibited in various places of Ukhrul Headquarters. Waste Collection Card will be issued to every households by the Small Town Committee of ADC- Ukhrul with a monthly charge of Rs. 200.

The Small Town Committee (STC), of ADC- Ukhrul is to collect the waste materials from Kharasom Junction to District Hospital from 10:00 am to 11:00 am everyday except on holidays. However, the collection of waste has been stopped for the past few days due to incessant rain. The dipper truck could not proceed to the dumping site at Kasomphung due to pathetic road condition. “The Small Town Commitee of ADC-Ukhrul are waiting for the rain to stop so as to repair the road,” stated Leiyaphy Kasar, Executive Officer of STC ADC Ukhrul.
District Administration has deputed various officers to check unwanted disposal of waste at unauthorized places. Strict action will be initiated to any defaulters said Ukhrul Police.
