Ukhrul Youths come forward to clean the Town

Ukhrul Town cleanliness drive, an initiative of Tangkhul returnees from metro cities from all walks of life was successfully organised on Saturday. Work started from 5:30 AM and continued till 10:00 AM. The majority of returnees came back to town owing to the sudden national lockdown following the corona virus outbreak by government of India on March 2020. It is estimated that around ten thousand returned to Ukhrul, predominantly a Tangkhul tribe district.

The main purpose of this drive is to create awareness among the Ukhrul District residents concerning cleanliness and it’s benefits, with the theme “Our Town, our Responsibility”. More than a hundred Ukhrul youths participated in the cleanliness drive.

The drive was undertaken between Dungrei Junction, Hungpung and Kharasom Junction, Hunphun. The starting junctions for cleaning include Kharasom Junction, Phungyo Church, Gandhi Chowk and Dungrei Junction. The voluntary youths proactive participation was key to the success to today’s cleanliness drive initiative.

The organisers said that cleanliness is important for improved good health and promotes safe hygiene. Expressing gratitude for the wonderful opportunity of people’s participation, one volunteer said that such town initiative was an important avenue to raise awareness on the importance of cleanliness in one’s neighborhood as well as in the town.
