World’s tallest railway pier bridge in Tamenglong

Noney, Aug 19: The Northeast Frontier Railway 111 kilometer long Jiribam-Imphal railway line which will connect Imphal with the rest of India as part of the goal towards transformation of Northeast through connectivity and transportation, is the tallest pier rail bridge in the world. The pier bridge is being constructed across river Ijai near Noney.

The staggering height of the pier bridge is 141 meters which is equivalent to almost twice the height of Qutub Minar. NFR says, it will surpass the existing record of 139 meters of Mala – Rijeka viaduct, Montenegro in Europe.

The railway line as per NFR is projected to be completed by March 2022. A budget of Rs. 13,809 crore was announced by the Central Government for this project.
