CHURACHANDPUR: Rich tributes were paid and a memorial stone for the 35 World War I veterans from Sinzawl village in Manipur’s Churachandpur was inaugurated on Thursday by Er Ginzalala Hauzel, MLA of Champhai North, Mizoram along with representatives of Thanlon MLA Vungzagin Valte in the village.
On the occasion Ginlalsiam Munsong, in his keynote address, said that out of the 35 veterans who fought for India during World War I, three didn’t return home and were buried in France. The memorial stone was erected to honour their dedication to the country, he said.
He further said that World War I was a revolution in itself as it changed the landscape and ideology of the world on a massive scale that inspires generations. Epitaphing a new set of courage, vigour and a determination to fight for their honour is worthy for those who sacrificed their lives in this War, he added.
