Zomi Nam Ni Football Tournament 2026: GSC Bags Champions Title

CHURACHANDPUR: Ganggam Soccer Club (GSC) beat Zomi Football Club to bag the Champions title of the 78th Zomi Nam Ni Football Tournament 2026. GSC won with a score of 2-0  during the final match played on Saturday at Lamka Public Ground, Hiangtam Lamka, Churachandpur.

Both goals were scored in the first half, which stood till the end of the regular time with the ZFC dominating the match in the second half pressing to score but failed to score, thus securing victory for GSC who lifted the trophy. The trophy came with the district record prize money of 2 lakh and a citation while the runners-up were richer by a prize money of Rs 1 lakh.

The 78th Zomi Nam Ni Football Tournament 2026 was graced as Chief Guest by the newly appointed Dy CM of Manipur Losii Dikho, who on the occasion said that he brings greetings from the chief minister who is trying to initiate peace and reach out to all sections of people for peace.

He also spoke about the conflicts among different tribes of Manipur, maintaining that conflicts can be resolved through prayer and a spirit of “Forgive and Forget”. “We are all Christians and should be an agent of peace and football can also be an instrument of peace as it has no boundaries,” the deputy CM said. 

The chief guest also said that he was fascinated by the enthusiasm shown by the Zomis in the football tournament and assured to convey the message to the CM to support the Zomi youths in their pursuit for sports, as he recalled his activity in sports as a leader of sports body in the state.

The 78th Zomi Nam Ni Football Tournament 2026 was organised in a run up to the Zomi Nam Ni celebration which fell on February 20.
