12 bunkers destroyed in hills and valley: Manipur police

Imphal, June 25:  As many as 12 bunkers erected by people in the hills and the valley were destroyed by the Manipur police and central security forces in the last 24 hours, control room of Manipur police, said in a press release on Sunday.

The bunkers were destroyed during the search operations conducted by the police and Central security forces in Imphal East, Bishnupur, Kangpokpi, Churachandpur and Kakching districts, the release added.

In the operations, three 51mm mortar shells and three 84mm mortar shells were found in the paddy field of Sahumphai village and one IED was found in a paddy field between Kangvai and S Kotlien villages.

The mortar shells and IED were demolished at the spot by the bomb disposal team, the police control room also said.

The police have also arrested 135 persons in connection with curfew violations, theft in abandoned houses, arson cases, etc.

A total of 1100 arms, 13,702 ammunition, and 250 bombs of different kinds have been recovered, said the press release. It also  stated the situation in Manipur is tense but under control in some places with sporadic incidents but normal in most districts.

Manipur police and Central forces were conducting patrolling, flag marches and cordon search operations, it further said.

The control room appealed to the general public to extend all possible help in bringing normalcy in the state while asking to clarify any rumour by dialing 9233522822 of Central Control Room and also to return and deposit arms, ammunition and explosives to the police or security forces immediately.
