NEW DELHI/UKRUL: A delegation of 14 Civil Society Organisations (CSOs), Kangleipak, along with leaders of different communities in Manipur, met union minister Kiren Rijiju at his official residence in New Delhi on Monday.
The meeting began at around 3:20 pm and lasted for nearly an hour. Manipur government spokesperson and MLA Thokchom Radheshyam was also present.
The delegation included representatives of various civil society organisations and community bodies from Manipur.
Speaking after the meeting, 14 CSOs Kangleipak convener Santa Nahakpam said the delegation urged the centre to first properly identify Indian citizens before conducting the Census in Manipur.

He said the delegation also submitted a memorandum demanding that the National Register of Citizens (NRC) be updated with 1951 as the base year before the Census is conducted.
The delegation further demanded that the delimitation exercise be put on hold until the NRC is updated and the concerns raised by the people are addressed.
According to Santa, union minister Kiren Rijiju assured the delegation that their demands, including the issue of the Census, would be discussed with union home minister Amit Shah before an appropriate decision is taken.
The delegation is also scheduled to meet BJP national president Nitin Nabin at around 5:30 pm on Monday to discuss the demands raised by the people of Manipur.
