17 killed as railway over bridge collapses in Mizoram; PM Modi announces ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh for victims

Aizawl: At least 17 workers has died in an under construction railway over bridge in Mizoram state’s Sairang, near Aizawl on Wednesday.

The cause of the death is because of the collapse of an under construction bridge.

Chief minister of Mizoram Zoramthanga while extending his deepest condolences to all the bereaved families, wishing the injured speedy recovery, said he is deeply saddened and affected by the tragedy.

Zoramthanga also expressed his gratitude to the people who have came in large numbers to help with rescue operations in progress.

Prime minister Narendra Modi took to Twitter and said he is pained by the bridge mishap in Mizoram. In response to the devastating incident Narendra Modi has announced financial support for the affected families extending an ex-gratia of Rs. 2 lakh from PMNRF would be given to the next of kin of each deceased. Rs. 50,000 would be given to the injured.
