18 personnel of a police station test positive for COVID-19 in Manipur

IMPHAL: At a time when Manipur is facing a rapid surge in the cases of local transmission of COVID-19, another case of mass infection of police personnel of a police station was reported on Sunday.

Official sources said that as many as 18 personnel of Sugnu police station of Kakching district including a sub-inspector were tested positive for the COVID-19.

This is the third time in which mass infection of personnel of a police station was reported in the state. Earlier, there were instances of mass infection of personnel of the police station at Jiribam district headquarters and also at the Mayang Imphal police station of Imphal West district.

The 18 personnel Sugnu police station were among the 152 fresh cases of COVID-19 detected in the past 24 hours (till 5 pm of August 30).

The report also said that 19 of the fresh cases of COVID-19 are personnel of the Central security forces while the rest 133 are from the general population. Among them, 32 cases are returnees from other states and 101 of them have no recent travel history, an official source in the state Health department said.
