19 Detained, Arambai Tenggol Member Arrested for Street Violence in Imphal: Manipur Police

Ukhrul, June 11: Manipur Police said that an Arambai Tenggol cadre identified as Raj Panjeibam (39), also known as Boinao Pangeijam, was arrested along with the weapon used in the offence (a pistol). Police in its report dated June 9, 2025, stated that security forces were attacked by protestors belonging to Arambai Tenggol while attempting to clear a roadblock at Tera Sapam in Imphal West District.

According to the Police, the protestor Raj Panjeibam allegedly opened fire on the troops before fleeing the scene. He was later produced before a magistrate and has been remanded to Police custody for eight days.

In another case of Imphal crisis, Manipur Police said it detained 19 individuals for their involvement in acts of street violence in Imphal East district. Per Police report, the detainees were found blocking roads, harassing commuters, and disturbing public peace, many reportedly under the influence of alcohol.

The disruptive actions not only inconvenienced law-abiding citizens but also posed a threat to public safety and order. Authorities have taken a firm stance, reiterating that such behaviour will not be tolerated, Police said.

In a public appeal, Manipur Police urged residents, particularly the youth, to refrain from engaging in unlawful and anti-social activities. The Police emphasized that participation in such acts could have serious legal repercussions, potentially jeopardizing an individual’s future and career prospects.

Meanwhile, Manipur Police also informed that security forces arrested three active cadres belonging to different underground outfits from the general area of Pantha under Moreh Police Station in Tengnoupal District on June 9, 2025. The arrested individuals have been identified as, Laisharm Rakeshwar Singh (21) of Torbung Waikhurok, Bishnupur District, affiliated with PREPAK (Pro); Sharangthem Koireng (25) of Kakmeiyai, Thoubal District, affiliated with KYKL; Laikham Amujao Singh alias Salai (22) of Sekmai, Imphal West District, affiliated with KCP (Noyon).

    According to Manipur Police, the arrests were made based on credible intelligence inputs and are part of ongoing efforts to curb militant activities in the border regions. The apprehended cadres are currently in custody for further investigation and legal action.
