19th Students’ Martyrdom Day observed at Bishnupur

Bishnupur: 19th Students’ Martyrdom Day was observed at Bishnupur on Thursday to commemorate the supreme sacrifice of Athouba Pebem Chitaranjan Mangang, who self immolated on August 16 of 2004 against the Armed Forces Special Powers Act, 1958.

During that time, Pebem Chitaranjan was a student and a member of the Manipuri Student Federation.

Manipuri Student Federation organised the Floral Tribute at Bishnupur Keithel, the place of Pebem Chitaranjan’s immolation site.

Floral Tribute was also paid to the statue of Pebem Chitaranjan at Student Martyrdom Complex Bishnupur Ward number 7.

President in charge of Manipur Student Federation, Hijam Roshan, expressed that the AFSPA 1958 Act is a draconian law, and such type of law is no longer appropriate to our state. So, the central government should not bring divisive policy in our state and he appealed to withdraw all the AFSPA forces from the state and bring peace and harmony in Manipur.

Ema Longjam Memchoubi, President of Poirei Leimarol Meira Paibi Apunba Manipur, Phunildro Konsam, Chairman Committe on Human Rights, Ph.Nando Luwang, President of All Manipur United Club Organization attended the function.
