In a major success for the West Garo Hills (WGH) police, 2 drug smugglers were arrested within the district from whom a huge stash of over 2 kgs of Yaba tablets were recovered, according to police.
The incident took place on April 22 when the WGH police received information from sources of the likely movement of a drug consignment through the Garobadha area under WGH. The area however falls under the civil administration of South West Garo Hills (SWGH district), police said.
Accordingly a team headed by the SDPO of Tura Sadar, personnel from the Garobadha Investigation Centre were formed to nab the persons involved in the drug trafficking.
“Through a hot pursuit of the suspects, two persons near Oidoba (Joyfair tri junction) were apprehended on the same day, April 22 at about 5:30 pm. We are now on the lookout for more members of the same gang who have been involved in the inter-state drug transport ring,” said superintendent of police, WGH, Dr MGR Kumar.
The police officer added that more than 20,000 suspected Yaba tablets (weighing 2.028 kgs) were seized during the operation and the 2 accused in the drug peddling were arrested. An FIR on the incident has been submitted to the district of SWGH under the IPC as well as NDPS Acts. The case is currently under investigation.
