Ukhrul: After the exhilarating 4th edition of the State level Shirui Lily Festival 2022, the locals are left with a massive trail of plastic and waste.
An initiative on Wednesday was taken up by more than 70 youths to clean up the road from Finch Corner to Ukhrul town.
Many came forward to support the local initiative by sponsoring trucks and donating money to clean up the stretch of the road leading towards Ukhrul headquarters. The cleanliness drive was led by Tennoson Pheiray, a journalist and activist.
Volunteers from different groups such as Rising Youth, Hao Riders, Chiko Adventures, Career Pathfinders, Meiphung Production House, Seipet Zingsho Phungreitang Youth and many more came to participate in the cleanliness drive.

Heaps of plastic waste and garbage pile up along the 20 km stretch such as plastics items, bottles, beer cans, food wrappers etc were collected. it was disposed off safely at the dumping site maintained by ADC Ukhrul.
Alfred Kanngam, Ex-MLA 44-Ukhrul, stopped by and showed his support by encouraging the volunteers and contributed monetary fund for refreshment.
Tennoson Pheiray expressed his appreciation to the Ex-MLA of Ukhrul district for his concern and support to the youth.
The voluntary cleanliness drive was well received and applauded by the denizens of the town.
