3 miscreants caught robbing Vaiphei locality; 2 apprehended with arms ammunition; man injured in bomb blast

Imphal: A team of 12th Grenadiers caught three miscreants who allegedly tried to rob abandoned houses at Vaiphei locality in Langol, Imphal West District today.

The arrested persons are 30-year-old Md. Bobo, son of late Md. Jiaudin, 27-year-old Md. Riyaz Khan, son of Md. Barsimar, both from Kwakta, and one Md. Firoz, from Hatta. Upon receiving information that the miscreants were trying to steal things from abandoned houses belonging to Kuki people in the colony, a team of 12th Grenadiers personnel who have been keeping a close watch at Vaiphei locality for the past few days, caught them red handed at around 11:30 am. They were handed over to Lamphel Police Police Station for further actions.

Meanwhile, Indian Army launched a joint operation along with columns of Assam Rifles and Manipur
Police in general area Kairang Turel Mapal in Imphal East District of Manipur, during the early morning hours of Tuesday.

During the search operation, two suspects were apprehended along with arms, ammunition, and other war-like stores. PRO (Defence) Kohima and Imphal informs that  recovery includes five weapons, two country made weapons, a large quantity of mixed ammunition, and other miscellaneous war like stores. Apprehended persons and recovered stores have been handed over to Heingang police station of Imphal East district.

In another news, Newmai News Network said a man sustained injuries after an explosion at Pishumthong Oinam Leikai under Singjamei police station of Imphal West district on Tuesday evening. The injured person has been identified as Salam Lalitchandra of Pishumthing Oinam Leikai. He sustained injuries on both legs. Local sources said that the blast suspected to be a bomb happened today, around 2.15 pm, while the man was cutting an old iron pipe with an iron cutting tool for erecting fencing. The iron pipe was bought from a second hand iron pipe shop at Langthabal in Imphal West district, the source said.
