Imphal: The 32nd Death Anniversary of Keisham Bira Singh was observed on August 16, 2023 at the residence of the deceased at Oinam Mamang Leikai. Apart from family members, the event was attended by relatives, neighbors, few elders and a handful of seniors who were associated with or knew Keisham Bira Singh in person.

The day also marked the commemoration of the tragic crash of Boeing 737 at Thangjing Ching on 16th August, 1991 where all 63 passengers including Keisham Bira Singh and 6 crew members on board lost their lives.
The day began with a two-minute silence in honor of Keisham Bira Singh. Mr. Nongthombam Sushindro Singh of Oinam Awang Leikai presented a Manipuri song titled “Bharat’ta Poklaba, Bharat’ta Chaoraba” which was written by Keisham Bira Singh during his days at Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh.

It was followed by memorial speeches from Mr Oinam Dibeshore Singh of Oinam Keithel, Dr Khangjrakpam Kunjo Singh of Oinam Mamang Leikai, Mr Laishram Gokulchandra Singh of Sunushiphai, Mr Laishram Jatra Singh of Khangabok, Mr Nameirakpam Indubhusan Singh of Oinam Mamang Leikai and Mr Laishram Radhakishore Singh of Keinou on the life of and experiences with Keisham Bira Singh.
Later a religious “Lai Chakluk Chanba” and a floral tribute were paid honouring the deceased. The day ended with a traditional Meitei lunch for 170 people prepared by Meitei Brahmins.
People who were present recalled that August 16, 1991 was a rainy day and so was August 16, 2023.
