Dimapur: 50-year-old Maj. Gen. (Rtd.) Ang Mai from Tangshang Region who was the personal Secretary of late S.S. Khaplang was unanimously elected as the Chairman of the National Socialist Council of Nagaland (NSCN-K). The decision was taken in an emergency meeting held at GHQ on June 27, 2023, where both civil and military officers attended.

In a press statement issued on June 27, 2023 by office of the General Staff Officer-I (D), General Headquarter Naga Army said, Maj. Gen. (Rtd.) Ang Mai has been serving in different post and portfolios like Home Minister and other military assignment. An experienced hand, his appointment as the Chairman will be for the upliftment of the Government, it said.

“Due to the deteriorating and mal-administration of the Government, Naga Army led by Maj. Gen. Langnyei dispatched meeting information letter to all the Naga Army Unit commanders to reach GHQ on 5′ April, 2023. But Yung Aung criticized the meeting as factional meeting and stopping Some Naga Army officers on the way to restrain from the meeting,” the press release said.

On account of Yung Aung’s action, the Naga Army held a meeting on 10th April, 2023, and deposed Yung Aung from the Chairmanship of the party for his anti-National and anti-Party activities which is totally against the Yezhabo of the NSCN/GPRN, it further added.

While appealing all the Naga people to cooperate and contribute, the press release stated, “under the leadership of Maj. Gen. (Rtd.) Ang Mai will continue the Naga National struggle following the foot-steps of our Great Leader late BABA S.S. Khaplang.”
