94 locally transmitted cases take Manipur’s COVID-19 tally to 4687

UT News Service | IMPHAL, Aug 17:  Worsening of COVID-19 situation in Manipur is witnessed despite complete lockdown to contain the spread as 94 of the 118 fresh cases of COVID-19 were reported in the last 24 hours in the state. The pandemic related deaths in the state also rose to 17 after one more patient died on Monday at RIMS hospital.

Official reports said that a total of 118 fresh cases of COVID-19 were confirmed during testing of 835 samples in the state in the past 24 hours.  Twenty-four of the 118 fresh cases are personnel of the Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) while the rest 94 are locals.  They have been admitted at various Covid care centres, a report of the COVID-19 Common Control Room said.

All the 94 fresh cases among the locals have no recent travel history, and among them, 72 are from Imphal West district, the report said.

With this update, the COVID-19 tally in the state rose to 4687, out of which 1216 are Central security personnel. The state has also tested 1,15,876 samples till date.

The update also showed the total number of discharged cases as 2734 (2480 general population and 254 CAPF).

The number of active cases now stands at 1936 and the recovery rate in the state is 58.33%, the report added.
