9th Amur Falcon Festival Held at Tamenglong Hq under the theme “Rhythm of Migration”

Ukhrul: The ninth edition of the Amur Falcon festival was held at Tamenglong headquarters under the theme “Rhythm of Migration” with much fanfare. Minister of Water Resource and Relief and Disaster Management Awangbow Newmai attended the program as the Chief Guest with several other prominent leaders. 

In his keynote address, chief guest Awangbow Newmai called for the protection of the bird Amur Falcon and the entire flora and fauna in the district. He also called for the promotion of local products such as pineapple, orange, and bitter beans which are widely known outside for sustaining the economy.

Talking about the prevailing situation in the state, the Minister assured that the government is trying its best to bring peace to the state, although it has not succeeded so far. Stressing that peace is the need of the hour, he called upon the people to inquire what one can contribute to its restoration.

MLA Janghemlung Panmei, speaking as the Guest of Honour at the event, urged the community to maintain the ecological balance by preserving nature and birds. Stressing the need for protection of the Amur Falcon, he stated that the bird be used as a messenger of peace to the world.

Phungyar MLA Leishiyo Keishing, speaking at the event, urged the people to host the Amur Falcon with love and care and to change food habits so that birds, especially the Amur Falcon, do not fall prey to it. 

The secretary of the Rainforest Club, Tamenglong Ramhiamang Gonmei, also gave a brief report on the measures undertaken to protect the Amur Falcon in the district.

The festival witnessed cultural dances celebrating God’s creation in the bird Amur Falcon and ‘War Dance’ performed by the Puching Dance Troupe and Phalong village, respectively. Five villages, Chiuluan, Khangchiuluan, Guangram, Phalong, and Puching, were also awarded for taking measures to protect the birds. A documentary film, Akhuaipuina, was also screened at the event.
