A team of Imphal West district police seized a huge quantity of WY tablets (Psychotropic drugs) worth over Rs 1 crore in the international market on Sunday.

The drugs were seized from two trucks heading towards Assam from Kanglatongbi on Sunday evening and three persons carrying the drugs were also arrested, the police said on Monday. Addressing the media, Imphal West SP K Meghachandra said the drugs were seized by a team of police commandos attached with Imphal West district police during checking of the two trucks at a place between Kanglatongbi and Shantipur under Kangpokpi police station.

He identified the arrested alleged drug peddlers as Md Khan (24), Md Yunus (19) and Md Mustakim (28), all from Keibul Makha Leikai of Bishnupur district.

From the disclosure of the arrested trio, the police revealed that the drugs were handed over to them by one Md Itomba for onward transportation to Guwahati (Assam).

The police officer said that following the seizure, the Manipur police now is tracking an inter-state drug racket.

He, however, refused to reveal the further development saying that it would sabotage the ongoing investigation.

“We are processing for a joint operation with neighbouring states to nab those drug smugglers”, Meghachandra said.
