A teenage boy was killed and seven others injured in a scuffle between two families over a long-standing land dispute in Manipur’s Imphal West district.
Irate locals Kakwa Naorem Leikai where the incident took place set afire the house belonging to the man who was said to be responsible for killing the boy apart from ransacking three neighbouring houses early Sunday morning. The locals further smashed a Maruti van before a strong police team arrived and controlled the irate locals by firing tear gas shells and mock bombs.
Police said the 17-year-old boy who died after he was allegedly hit by a bullet was identified as RK Casper, son of late RK Ghanashyam. Police have arrested the man allegedly responsible for killing the boy and his son after registering a case at Singjamei police station of Imphal West district.
Police said the fight over the land dispute took place Saturday night, around 11.30 pm while the torching of the house of the alleged accused persons occurred early Sunday morning. The house of the alleged accused persons has been totally gutted even as the police and fire tenders fought to douse the fire while controlling the mob.
Police fired several rounds of tear gas to disperse the irate people and to prevent from causing further damage to properties of the neighbouring houses.
