Chief Minister Distributes Financial Assistance to Labour Card Holders in Relief Camps

Ukhrul, January 8 (DIPR): According to a press release issued by the Government of Manipur, Chief Minister N. Biren Singh distributed financial assistance to over 5,200 labour card holders residing in relief camps. The event took place today at the Durbar Hall, Chief Minister’s Secretariat in Imphal and was part of a special initiative aimed at supporting the education of children from these families. The distribution was organised by the Manipur Building and Other Construction Workers’ Welfare Board under the Department of Skills, Labour, Employment and Entrepreneurship.

In his address, the Chief Minister emphasized the need for unity and collaboration in addressing the state’s challenges. He urged citizens to set aside petty political differences and focus on the betterment of the state and its people. “Politics should be about doing something for the land and its people,” the Chief Minister said, stressing that elected leaders must stand firm for the welfare of the state.

According to the press release, a total of Rs 2,89,10,000 was disbursed through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT), with each family receiving a one-time payment of Rs 5,000. These funds were distributed to families with valid labour cards who are currently residing in relief camps due to the ongoing conflict.

The Chief Minister commended the officials of the Department for their transparency and accountability in managing the distribution process. He also highlighted several government schemes that have been launched for the welfare of the people, including the Chief Minister-gi Hakshelgi Tengbang (CMHT) for medical assistance to the poor, and the Chief Minister Sotharabasin-gi Tengbang, which supports the differently-abled. Furthermore, he noted that under the School Fagathansi Mission, children of labour card holders in relief camps are being provided free education in government schools.

The press release further mentioned that the Chief Minister shared details of other welfare schemes, including the Chief Minister gi Artistes singi Tengbang (CMAT), which provides a monthly pension to around 900 artists, and the ‘One Family One Livelihood Scheme,’ which has supported thousands of families. He also announced that 500 youths from the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) category would be trained for cabin crew placements in Delhi, with funding provided by the Ministry of Tourism.

In addition, the Chief Minister highlighted the government’s efforts to assist those affected by the conflict. According to the press release, prefabricated houses have been constructed in Phubala to offer displaced families safer living conditions, with around 2,500 houses now occupied.

The ceremony was attended by several ministers, including Forest Minister Biswajit Singh, Works Minister Govindas Konthoujam, CAF & PD Minister Leishangthem Susindro Meitei, and Education Minister Basantakumar Singh, as well as MLAs, officials from the welfare board, and inmates from the relief camps.
