1st Angling festival 2021 was held at Nbuiky (Barak), river Langpram Village, Tamei subdivision, Tamenglong district on Wednesday.
Awangbow Newmai, Minister of Forest and Environment graced the program as chief guest, while Namsinrei Panmei, ADC, Chairman, Tamenglong and A. Shivdas Sharma, President AMAA, as guest of honour and Function President respectively.
During his speech, Minister Awangbow mentioned that people have been living without roads, without computers and without any mode of advanced technologies for decades and urged the people to learn to respect and preserve animals, birds, insects and rivers. He also urged to uplift the festival as it encourage conserving of forest, nature and animals and also to make people aware of the importance of conserving our forest and climate.
Enoch Newmai, Convenor of the Anglin Fest lamented over the use of chemicals and explosives while fishing in the river, and its negative impact on the ecosystem to great extent especially fishes. After banning river fishing for 3-6 months it is observed that the number of fishes in Barak river especially in Tukakjai river increased, said the festival convenor.
The three day festival organised by Nbuiky (Barak) Angling committee will continue till 12th March. Save the Rivers Foundation and Highland Riders Club were also among the organisers while Green Tree Academy, Imphal Fishing Tackles store, HVS, Indian Oil, HRC and Women Bait and Tackle were the sponsors.
The winner of the first angling festival prizes stands at ₹25000/- with fishing tackles and ₹15000/- with fishing tackles for the second prize and ₹5000/- along with fishing tackles for the third prize and as a consolation prize ₹500/- each along with fishing tackles were given to the 5(five) contestants.
