The state government in a press note Monday announced to conduct Autonomous District Council (ADC) election to be held on or before June 25, 2021.
The announcement came in as a result of a meeting held between All Tribal Students’ Union, Manipur (ATSUM) and Demand Committee and state government represented by minister, Loshii Dikho, minister Vungzagin Valte and Chairman, Hill Area Committee, K Leishiyo together with officials of the department of Tribal Affairs and Hill, government of Manipur.
However, as announced earlier, volunteers of ATSUM started picketing/sealing government offices in the district headquarters, Senapati including DC office, Senapati and ADC office, Senapati with posters to have closed the offices.
Sealing of government offices against the failure from the state government to announce the date to hold ADC elections was reported in other hill districts of Manipur.
Usual business establishments and plying of vehicles continued in the district. The Senapati District Students Association (SDSA) in support of the tribal apex student body endorsed the agitation on the day. Earlier, different tribal student bodies had declared their support to the agitation of the ATSUM.
Reports has come in that, ATSUM will go ahead with agitation until and unless the exact date of ADC elections is declared.
