Manipur government has constituted an expert committee to examine the COVID-19 mortality cases in the state.
The committee led by director of Manipur Health Services, Dr K Rajo Singh and having six members was constituted by an order of the state Health department. The committee will look into COVID-19 mortality cases to identify causes and suggest remedial and preventive steps that may be taken at hospitals, COVID Care Centres and during home isolation, the order stated.
Director of RIMS, Dr A Santa Singh, medical superintendent of JNIMS, Dr Kh Lokeshwar Singh, managing director of Babina Diagnostics, Dr Th Dhabali, president of Indian Medical Association, Manipur state branch, regional director of Union ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Dr L Ashananda Singh and additional director of Health Services, Dr Lalthari Hmar are the members of the committee.
The state is witnessing a rise in the mortality rate due to COVID-19 complications since the last week of April along with a gradual upward trend in the daily infection cases reported from the first week of the same month.
An analysis of the daily COVID-19 situation report of the state Health department showed the staggering pace at which deaths have increased since April last week.
However, since May 5 last, the state has been witnessing daily death cases of 10 and above with 20 casualties reported on two occasions on May 11 and May18 being the highest single-day death cases since the pandemic spread in the state in March 2020.
