Curfew in seven districts of Manipur extended till June 11 with additional permitted activities

Curfew to curb COVID-19 spread in the seven districts of Manipur has been extended for another 14 days (till June 11) by an order of the Home department.

The Manipur government has been imposing a whole-day curfew in seven COVID-19 most affected districts to check the spread of the virus. 

The districts under curfew are Imphal West, Imphal East, Bishnupur, Thoubal, Kakching, Churachandpur and Ukhrul.

At first the curfew was imposed for nine days with effect from May 8 till May 17 and was extended again for the second time till May 28. 

It was further extended for another 14 days (till June 11) by an order of the state home department issued today. 

The state government was compelled to extend the curfew as the number of infections of the COVID-19 virus detected everyday continued to be very high relative to the population. 


It is the source of concern, the order extending the curfew with some additional permitted activities stated.

The additional permitted activities included re-opening of government offices including secretariat offices with 15% physical attendance of staff from June 1.

All directorate offices start functioning with physical attendance of 15% staff from June 1 by taking adequate precaution and strictly following Covid appropriate behaviour.

All the essential services like media, power, fire service, PHED, CAFPD, home, health, relief and disaster management, police, district administrations etc. will continue to function as before.

Vehicle workshops of goods trucks, petrol tankers, LPG bullets etc. outside the Imphal Municipal area may be open from 8 am till 3pm on all the days taking adequate precaution and strictly following Covid appropriate behaviour.

Rice mills are also allowed to open subject to adequate precaution and strictly following Covid appropriate behaviour.

Local vegetable vendors can be open from 7am till 10 am for purchase by the locals on May 30, June 2, June 5 and June 8. Only one out of three grocery shops of the total shops in one location will be allowed to open during the same time and days as above.

Whole sale shops of grocery and food essentials located in Thangal Bazar and Masjid Road will be allowed to open from 7 am to 12 noon as per schedule fixed by the authorities.
Life Assurance Corporation will be allowed to function with limited staff on Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 10 am till 2.30 pm to dispose of time bound works.
