Itanagar: With the theme Cycling for Peace and Brotherhood, Itanagar Cycling Club in collaboration with Lakhimpur Cycling Club organised the first ever interstate cycling event, 3-Day Majuli Tour from October 15 to 17.
On day 1, the participants assembled and camped on the bank of Luit River. Discussion on shared interests and community building were laid down by Ijum Gadi, president, Itanagar Cycling Club and Rajendra Chutia, president, Lakhimpur Cycling Club.
Meet and greet program was arranged by Biki Nodi and Rahul Mili, Coordinators, Itanagar Cycling Club.
On day 2, the team made a whirlwind tour of Majuli Town and its cultural heritage sites. The famous Satras of Majuli, Dhunaguri Ghat Kamalabari Ghat, Auniati Satra, Auniati Satra Museum, Mokha Satra and Samaguri Satra, the finest Mask Craftmanship works, and the traditional villages were covered. The day culminated with the camping on the bank of Brahmaputra river at Shikari Sapori.
On day 3, the team met with the local villagers of Shikari Gaon located in the embankment of Brahmaputra river and learnt their way of livelihood. Also, there was a discussion on general understanding of the people of Assam and Arunachal Pradesh and it’s similarities and uniqueness.
A united total distance of 3500 km were covered in the tour by the cyclists, averaging 350 km individually. Lakhimpur Cycling Club and Itanagar Cycling Club agreed to conduct such joint meets and tours in the future as well and sent a message to all other northeastern states to join the cause.
