Alleged bomb planted by CRPF personnel caught by public in Tamenglong

Tamenglong: Public in Tamenglong district on Saturday reportedly caught red handed a personnel of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) accused of planting an Improvised Explosive Devices (IED) at an event set for Jadonang memorial site renovation at Puiluan village under Nungba sub-division.

Sources informed that the said IED was allegedly planted for a public meeting that involved GPRN officials.

The NSCN-IM has called the incident “terrorism” plotted and accused the 39th Assam Rifles (AR) posted at Nungba and the 87th Battalion of CRPF at Kambiron, for planting the IED at the site when the program for the renovation of Jadonang Memorial was going on at Puiluan village.

Sources in Tamenglong also confirmed that the person who planted the IED, as also alleged by the NSCN-IM, reportedly when interrogated, revealed that he is a CID/GD of the 87th Battalion of the CRPF of Kambiron (Puiluan), apprehended by the womenfolk of Puiluan village sensing his suspicious movement near the area where the IED was planted. It further alleged that the personnel confessed to the crime.

NSCN-IM said the CID who was detained is one Thiyam Ashok Singh of Kongba Leikai, Imphal, Manipur.

The locals also further alleged that while the IED was planted by the CRPF, the initiative came from the Assam Rifles.

In a video that has gone viral with caption, “CRPF personnel caught red handed by the public while setting a bomb trap for our authorities who will be coming for Jadonang Memorial site renovation at Puiluan village Nungba sub-division.”

The video also, further captioned that the CRPF personnel “pleaded guilty of planting a IED given by Assam Rifles posted at Nunba by company post commander in between Nungba town and Puiluan village, NH-39 on the night of September 23, 2022.
