Ukhrul: The dead bodies of the two women from Poi village in Ukhrul district has been reportedly still missing despite the extensive search and rescue operation continues on the third day on Wednesday.
The two women were killed after they were washed away by water current while crossing Tholiru stream near Challou river on Monday evening owing to heavy rainfall. The two women were on their way home from the paddy fields when the tragic incident happened.
According to the rescue team, due to the level of the flowing water were very high and the current was strong, the rescue work to trace the bodies were difficult on Tuesday.

“Today, the water level has decreased to 4 feet below but the water current continue to be strong, which is difficult for us to carried out the rescue operation. However, despite the difficulties, we are trying our best to trace the bodies and to each and every possible site, we are going inside water and searching,” informed Titus Sekho of the NDRF team at the rescue site.
The rescue team includes 20 NDRF, 14 SDRF, Assam Rifles, district police and volunteers from Poi village and other neighbouring villages.
Altogether, around 200 people are currently engaged in the search and rescue operation from various possible sites.
Soon after the report of the incident on Monday, a team of Chingai block police personnel, family members, villagers and neighbouring villagers rushed to trace the bodies. However, the rising volume of the river water has made the search operation difficult.
