Five arrested in connection with land record fabrication cases, four from revenue department

Imphal: Four officials of the Revenue department were among five persons arrested by the police in two separate alleged land scam cases reported in Imphal East district of Manipur, an official said today.

Three of the four officials were arrested by a team of Heingang police station of Imphal East for their alleged involvement in tampering land records to transfer to a private individual.

While the fourth official (now retired) was arrested along with a woman for violating government order regarding the transfer of land under gift deed.

Addressing media at the conference hall of Imphal East DC office complex today, deputy commissioner of Imphal East district, Khumanthem Diana said that the five persons were arrested in connection with two separate cases filed by additional DC Samit Ahmad Shah of the office.

She said that upon discovering tampering of land records to register government lands to a private individual at Nilakuthi area under Heingang SDC, the additional DC lodged a complaint to the Heingang police station.

The government land in the area was found transferred to an individual, she said.

Accordingly, the police arrested the three individuals on Saturday, she informed.

Attending the press conference, a police officer identified the three arrested individuals as former SDC of Heingang sub-division of Imphal East district, G Chinglensana Kabui, circle mandal, M Sanatomba and circle mandal, L Bishwanath.

They were arrested on Saturday and produced before the duty magistrate of Imphal East who remanded them to police custody for five days, he informed.

The police officer further informed the arrest of a retired sub-registrar at Porompat SDC office, S Ibomcha (62) along with a woman identified as Khundrak Dabayenti Devi (59) on the same day (Saturday) by Porompat police station.

They were arrested for their alleged violation of the government’s order regulating the transfer of land as ‘gift deed’.

The Imphal East DC said that the police complaint against them was lodged after some irregularities were found in the transfer of ownership of land.

Additional SP of Imphal East, M Pradip, who also attended the news conference, informed that the police have taken a three-remand for the two individuals after producing before the Imphal East duty magistrate.

This is not the first time, in which the state police arrested officials and staff of the Revenue department for their alleged involvement in the fabrication and manipulation of land records in the state.
