Imphal: Manipur chief minister along with his council of ministers on Friday chaired an emergency meeting to review the law and order situation in various hill districts in view of the mass rallies held today at Churachandpur, Kangpokpi and Tengnoupal districts.
The cabinet in its meeting noted that the mass rallies organized for certain cause is unconstitutional. The meeting also observed that the mass rallies in the three districts, therefore were illegal.

In the aftermath of the mass rally that turned violent in some parts of the hill districts of Manipur on Friday, the cabinet after a detailed deliberation said it has decided to withdraw the State Government from the tripartite Suspension of Operation (SoO) agreement between the Government of India, Manipur government and the two umbrella groups of Kuki militants, namely the Kuki National Army (KNA) and the Zomi Revolutionary Army (ZRA) whose leaders hail from outside the State.

In connection to the law and order situation in various districts of the state, N Biren took to twitter and wrote, “Chaired a meeting with the Council of Ministers along with senior Police officials & deliberated on various issues concerning the protection of reserved forest, which are guarded and announced under the jurisdiction of the Central Government.”
The cabinet further reaffirmed that the state government will not compromise on steps taken to protect the state’s forest resources and for eradicating poppy cultivation.

According to the cabinet meeting, show cause notices have been issued to District Commissioner and SPs of Churachandpur and Tengnoupal for allowing the rally in violation of prohibitory orders under CrPC 144.
It further added that strong action will be taken on officers responsible for lapses in security.
