Imphal: People paid rich tribute to the slain Manipur police commando Pukhram Ranbir alias Naoba today. Late Ranbir, aged 39, died in the line of duty during attacks by armed miscreants in the evening of Friday at Kwakta Ward No. 9 Moirang Turel Mapal in Bishnupur District.
The state level tribute ceremony was held at the Manipur Police Martyrs Memorial campus.

According to a report from the Manipur police control room, armed miscreants opened fire towards Phougakchao Ikhai Awang Leikai and Kwakta areas in Bishnupur District in the wee hours of July 7.
Sources said armed mistreants from Heikon and Phuasanphai villages open fired towards Kwakta Ward no. 9. Moirang Turel Mapal, which was retaliated by valley armed groups.

A student who tried to evacuate himself to a safe place on a scooter was killed along Tiddim road in Kwakta Ward no. 8 Kuthabi Muslim Leikai, as he was heading towards Kwakta bazaar.
Later, state police and security forces rushed and repelled the miscreants. Commando Pukhram Ranbir was part of the security team. He was positioned in the bunker of the Manipur police commando, when the armed miscreants shot him in the head.
Commando Pukhram Ranabir is survived by his wife and an infant baby girl.
