Effigies of Mizoram chief minister Zoramthanga burnt in Manipur’s valley

Imphal: Effigies of Mizoram chief minister Zoramthanga were burnt at some places in Imphal today in protest against “his unparliamentary remarks” on Manipur chief minister N Biren Singh.

The effigies were burnt at Sagolband and Patsoi areas during protest rallies carried out against the Mizoram chief minister’s “interference to the internal affairs of Manipur”.

The effigies were burnt at Sagolband Moirang Leirak and Tera bazar crossing today, around 11.30 am.

A large number of people took part in both the slogan chanting rallies carrying the effigies of the Mizoram chief minister marched on the streets along Sagolband and Tera along NH-37.

A leader of the protesters at Sagolband questioned the reasons behind the Mizoram chief minister “interfering in the internal affairs of Manipur state”.

She said the “interference by the Mizoram chief minister in Manipur’s issue showed his involvement in the violence perpetrated by the narco-terrorists in the state”.

The protestor also said that Zoramthanga was trying to “disintegrate the unity and harmony” among the people of the northeast region of India.
