Manipur Police & Security Forces Recover 86 Weapons, 974 Rounds of Ammunitions in Massive Arms Haul

Ukhrul/Imphal, July 15: In a major crackdown aimed at restoring peace in Manipur, joint teams of security forces conducted a series of coordinated raids across multiple districts in the early hours of Tuesday, recovering a large cache of arms, ammunition, and explosives.

Per Office of the DGP, Manipur Police, acting on specific intelligence inputs, the operations were carried out simultaneously in the peripheral and suspected areas of Imphal East, Imphal West, Thoubal, Kakching, and Bishnupur districts. The raids involved personnel from the Manipur Police, Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs), and the Army/Assam Rifles.

The security forces seized a total of 86 weapons, including:

  • 5 AK-series rifles
  • 3 INSAS rifles
  • 16 SLR rifles
  • 19 pistols
  • 9 other rifles
  • 2 anti-riot guns
  • 1 two-inch mortar

Additionally, 974 rounds of ammunition were recovered, including:

  • 526 rounds of 7.62 mm ammunition
  • 226 rounds of 5.56 mm ammunition
  • 190 rounds of .303 ammunition
  • 6 high-explosive (HE) mortar shells

Other seized items included 41 assorted magazines, 6 wireless handsets, and 9 grenades.

The Manipur Police hailed the operation as a major achievement in their ongoing efforts to dismantle illegal arms networks and restore stability in the state. “The Manipur Police reaffirms its commitment to fostering a peaceful and secure Manipur”, the press note said.

Manipur Police also urged the public to cooperate with the Police and Security Forces and to promptly report any suspicious activity or information related to illegal arms to the nearest police station or the Central Control Room.

It then said that the senior police officials remain in close coordination with all security stakeholders to ensure that such operations continue in a sustained and focused manner, aimed at restoring normalcy, maintaining public order, and safeguarding the lives and property of all citizens.
