Imphal: A 20-member delegation of the Opposition’s alliance, Indian National Developmental, Inclusive Alliance (INDIA) arrived here in Imphal on a two-day visit in strife-torn Manipur.
The delegation of 20-members from 16 political parties arrived here to assess the ground situation of the violence that erupted in Manipur on May 3 last so that they prepare a report and table in the houses of Parliament in the ongoing monsoon session.
Talking to reporters on their arrival at the Imphal airport, the MPs slammed Prime Minister Narendra Modi for “not taking up appropriate actions” to end the violence in the state and restore normalcy in the state even after nearly three months of violence.

“It is fortunate that the Prime Minister still remains silent. We want the Prime Minister to initiate the process of dialogue for restoring peace and normalcy in the state,” Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi, who is a part of the delegation, told reporters.
He said that the people of Manipur are living like refugees in their own land and the Opposition parties wanted the Prime Minister to offer a way of returning back to their normal life.
“This is the roadmap that we want from the Prime Minister and how he intends to bring about peace and normalcy and feelings of brotherhoods amongst the people of Manipur, amongst the people of northeast,” he said.
He added that “INDIA is an alliance of parties across the length and breadth from north to south and from east to west. We believe in a united Manipur, we believe in a united Northeast, we believe in a united India.”

Gogoi also said, “Today, the people of Manipur are suffering. We come here in their moment of grief and suffering to give the message of solidarity and to express regret at such a horror witnessed here in Manipur”.
“We come here as we want to listen to them and take their stories inside the Parliament and express their concerns and express their aspirations in the Parliament,” he also said.
JD(U) MP Rajiv Ranjan said that the entire INDIA is here and “we have come here to assess the situation of Manipur with the message that we are with the people of Manipur and we appeal to all the communities to live in Manipur in a brotherhood atmosphere.”
He further appealed to all concerns to shun violence and live peacefully.
Shiv Sena MP Arvind Sawant alleged the Prime Minister who kept silent on the Manipur issue for over 70 days is still not coming to the Parliament to say a word on the Manipur issue.

“Somehow the state government too miserably fails to handle the situation in a right way and we feel that now at least let us join together. So, all INDIA came here to assess the situation on ground,” he added.
He further said that the Opposition alliance, INDIA, is really disappointed with the manner the Central government and the state government are dealing with the situation and they will speak in the Parliament on behalf of Manipur.
The INDIA delegation landed at the Imphal airport by a commercial flight from Delhi and from there the delegation proceeded to Churachandpur by choppers to meet the victims of violence taking relief camps there.
The delegation is scheduled to visit the relief camps in Imphal and other valley districts of the state before meeting with the Governor on the second and last day of the visit in strife-torn Manipur.
