Imphal: The Congress party in Manipur on Friday condemned the two-hour long ‘tardy’ speech of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the Parliament.
On Thursday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi delivered his speech in response to a no confidence motion moved by the opposition in the Parliament.
In his speech, the Prime Minister assured the people of Manipur of bringing back peace and continue the development work while assuring the nation’s support to the people of Manipur.
However, the opposition members walked out amid his reply to the no-confidence motion debate in Lok Sabha alleging that the Prime Minister didn’t mention a single word on the Manipur issue in the first 90 minutes of his speech.

Addressing a press conference at Congress Bhavan here today, Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) president K Meghachandra said that the PM’s speech was mere rhetoric as it “lacked concrete plans and steps” to halt the more than three-month long violence in Manipur.
He said that the MPCC was happy with the INDIA bloc for raising the issue of Manipur in the Parliament and if the opposition alliance had not moved the no confidence motion, the Prime Minister may not come in the house of Lok Sabha and the entire nation might not realize the truth of the crisis unfolded in the state.
“The truth of the present violence in Manipur may not be realized by the nation if there was no confidence motion against the Narendra Modi led government,” he said.

However, even though he came to the Parliament and replied to the motion, his statement on the Manipur crisis lacked clarity, the MPCC leader said. The Prime Minister did not talk about a concrete policy to resolve the crisis, he added.
“The Prime Minister took only three minutes on the Manipur crisis even though he delivered his speech for two hours that too accusing the previous Congress rule being the outcome of the present crisis,” the MPCC leader also said.
“In fact it was not,” the MPCC president said, and added that instead of trying to blame the present crisis on the previous Congress government, the PM should come out with a complete plan or policy to resolve the crisis.

“That is why MPCC strongly condemns the speech of the honorable Prime Minister and the Union Home minister in the Parliament,” he said.
Attending the press conference, AICC CWC member and former deputy chief minister Gaikhangam described the Prime Minister’s speech as mere rhetoric.
He said that the Prime Minister should act more pro-actively to halt the Manipur violence prevailing in the state since May 3.
Gaikhangam said the killing of innocent people and arsoning is still continuing in the state, while the BJP led government in the state and at the Centre are evading from their primary responsibilities.

It is unfortunate that instead of giving a detailed plan to end the violence and bring back normalcy in the state, the Prime Minister blamed only the opposition in his speech, Gaikhangam said.
