MPCC condemns BJP’s lack of effort to end violence; assures to always extend help and cooperation

Imphal: The Congress party in Manipur on Friday reiterated that the party and its legislators are always ready to extend all kinds of cooperation and support to the government in the effort to restore peace and normalcy in Manipur.

Addressing the media at  Congress Bhavan here, Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) president K Meghachandra, however, alleged that “BJP’s double-engine government” lacked commitment to end the violence that cripples Manipur for more than four months.

“Chief minister N Biren Singh refraining from being a part of the delegation of the ministers and MLAs of the ruling parties camping currently in Delhi is another example of lack of commitment,” he said.

To note here, a delegation comprising two three ministers and 17 MLAs of ruling BJP and its partners are camping in Delhi to press the Central leaders to come up with a concrete step to end the more than four months violence in the state.

Starting their campaign, some MLAs among the delegation had reportedly called on Union home minister Amit Shah on Thursday evening.

The MPCC president said that earlier too, the ministers and MLAs of the ruling parties had camped at the national capital for several days and met with Central leaders on the crisis.

However, they came back without meeting with the Prime Minister, he also said.

“Now, the ministers and MLAs have once again camped at the national capital on the same issue. But, the question is, who is leading the delegation?” the MPCC leader asked.

At the same time, one interesting thing is that the ministers and MLAs will divide themselves and meet the Central leaders separately. “The people of the state would like to know what kind of plan it is. Why don’t they plan the meetings with the Central leaders together?” he further asked.

Asking the reason for the chief minister being excluded from being part of the delegation, Meghachandra observed that it is hard to believe that a mission without a leader will achieve the goal.

The MPCC president said that if peace and normalcy are to be restored in the state, the Congress and its legislators are always ready to extend all kinds of support and cooperation to the government.

“If necessary and asked for, the MLAs of the Congress are ready to join the delegation,” he said.

“But, one important issue is that the ministers and MLAs had dashed to Delhi only on the pressure from the civil society organisations particularly, the Youth of Manipur (YoM) and not gone to Delhi with an intention to end the violence,” he said.
