Imphal: Though situation in Manipur’s Imphal City remained calm on Wednesday, firings between armed Kuki miscreants and combined security forces were reported at Koutruk Chingthak of Imphal West District adjoining Kangpokpi District following Tuesday’s intense firing at Manipur’s Kangchup Chingkhong which left at least one killed and 10 people injured, including two police personnel. The combined team of security forces including personnel from Imphal West Commandos, CRPF, IRB and Manipur Rifles continued with retaliatory actions till late evening. There is no report of any injuries till the time of filing this report.

Four days have passed since the suspicious disappearance of two teenage boys from Akham Awang Leikai of Manipur’s Imphal West District in Sekmai area. Though two suspects have been arrested, no clue has been established of their whereabouts.
Two cadres of Kuki Revolutionary Army, KRA (Unification), a Kuki militant outfit under Suspension of Operations, allegedly involved in the teenage boys missing case were arrested by Manipur Police and Security Forces, as per police report released on Tuesday evening.
The arrested suspects are 30-year-old Lhunkhosei Chongloi, son of Hentinthang Chongloi from C. Aisan Village, under Saikul Police station and 28-year-old Satgohgin Hangsing, son of Ngamjalun Hangsing from Khomunnom Village under Litan Police Station. The two suspects were reportedly arrested from Senapati District. They were produced before a Magistrate on Tuesday and subsequently remanded into police custody until Nov 17 for further interrogation.

It may be mentioned that a press note from Kuki Revolutionary Army (U) dated Nov 6, clarified that “it has no connection whatsoever with the disappearance of the two boys and that any blame on the group must be treated an intentional and false accusation to malign the image of the group.”
Meanwhile, a Joint Action Committee formed against the missing teenage boys has decided to call a state-wide bandh from 4 AM to 1 PM on Nov 10. The JAC has also decided to launch protests across localities in Valley areas from tomorrow.
According to a police report dated Nov 7, at Kangchup Chingkhong, a Bolero carrying five individuals (2 women and 3 men) en-route from Churachandpur to Leimakhong was confronted by an enraged mob. The mob forcibly took away four of them, while one escaped. One person from the group was later rescued by security forces and further airlifted by chopper to Dimapur for further medical treatment. The whereabouts of the other four individuals, including the one who escaped, remain unknown. Security forces are actively working to locate the missing individuals and rescue them.
It may be noted that the Committee on Tribals Unity had served the relevant authorities an ultimatum of 24- hour to find the missing Kuki-Zo individuals.

Security forces continue carrying out search operations in the fringe and vulnerable areas of Imphal-West, Imphal-East, Thoubal, Kakching, Bishnupur, Churachandpur and Tengnoupal districts. On Wednesday, a combined team of Special Commando, IRB, Manipur Rifles, BSF and Assam Rifles reportedly arrested 2 suspected Kuki militants and handed them over to Moreh Police Station for further legal actions.
