One-Day Consumer Awareness Program organised by SEMKA Farmer Producer Company Ltd supported by Dept of Agriculture

Ukhrul: SEMKA Farmer Producer Company Ltd organized a one-day consumer awareness program at Ukhrul Townhall, with the support from the Department of Agriculture, Government of Manipur on Wednesday at 10 am.

The event was graced by Ukhrul MLA, Ramnganing Muivah (retd IAS) as the chief guest, and Deputy Commissioner, Ukhrul, Kengoo Zuringla, IAS, as the guest of honour. Additionally, Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), District Industries Centre (DIC), and representatives from the Department of Agriculture participated as the resource persons.

During her speech at the event, Kengoo Zuringla, DC Ukhrul highlighted the pivotal role of farmers in revitalizing the local economy and urged them to consider transitioning to organic farming practices. She also pledged required governmental support in facilitating market access and commended SEMKA Farmer Producer Company Ltd for orchestrating the event, stressing the significance of farmers as the primary asset of the district.

Speaking at the event, Ukhrul MLA Ramnganing Muivah advocated for doubling the income of women farmers and emphasized that India’s goal of becoming a superpower by 2047 hinges on the development of farmers. He highlighted the issue of high labor wages and underscored the importance of cultivating crops that are not typically grown in metropolitan cities. The MLA said that the advisor to the Central Agriculture Minister assured a 50 crore allocation for the purchase of machinery tools for farmers, following a proposal of 300 crores. He concluded by stating that the state can only progress when its farmers prosper.

Fr. Kanmi Director DSSS in his speech encouraged farmers to adopt smarter ways of farming to meet the needs of the ever growing population. He also stressed on the need to help expand farmers produce to larger markets for benefit of both the farmers and the consumers.

On the Technical session, Dr Solei Head KVK Ukhrul, Lungsem Luiram, Agriculture Officer, Ukhrul, Themrieyo T Awungshi General Manager, DIC Ukhrul and Kamjong were the resource persons.

The program moderated by Ngakuimi Kumrah CEO of SEMKA Farmer Producer Company Ltd, DSSS, concluded with a vote of thanks followed by interaction session initiated by Leishingam Field Staff DSSS.
