Imphal, April 20: Many organisations have strongly condemned the incidents of violence that marred voting processes at several polling stations across the Inner Manipur Parliamentary constituency on April 19.
Khwairamband Nupi Keithel Apunba Imasing condemned sporadic incidents of violence reported in several polling stations yesterday, particularly disrespect shown by the armed miscreants towards the womenfolk,
The vendors said that they were heart broken by Friday’s violent interference during polling and intimidation of some women by youths carrying guns.
They said the unruly behavior shown by the armed youths to mothers was painful. The youths should understand their obligations to tender an apology, the vendors demanded
Imagi Meira, a women-based pressure group while denouncing the violence incidents involving armed miscreants urged the government to unmask all the armed miscreants involved in poll violence within three days:
Alleging that their pleas not to hold elections before resolving the crisis in the state was ignored, the group alleged that the poll day witnessed a possible promotion of a system that robs a person from exercising his/her democratic right of voting for the candidate of his own choice.
Manipur Youth League also raised strong concern about the unfortunate events which unfolded on Friday during the first phase of voting for the 18th Lok Sabha polls pointing towards a bleak future for the inhabitants of the state.
